Throughout the world prayer beads
or "Rosary" have been used as a focus for daily ritual mediations and prayers; and the Buddhists of the Shaolin
temple were no exception. The second patriarch of the Ch'an school (Zen) was a man named Dazu Huike (born 487 - died
593) even used his prayer beads as a weapon of self-defence.Amongst the followers of Shaolin beads are frequently offered
between the priests and lay followers as gifts and keepsakes. These Shaolin Rosary are carved from solid wood and have
been sourced from the Shaolin temple itself. Each Rosary has a red tassel into which in knotted a small Buddhist Dharma wheel
as well as a small jade Swastika (Sun Symbol) known as a Manji, Yung-Drung or Wan.
